About DopplGrid

DopplGrid is a facial-recognition network built around one simple question: who else out there looks like you? Every day, people cross paths with strangers who could pass for a sibling, get told by friends they resemble a celebrity, or wonder if a look-alike from childhood photos is still out there somewhere. Some people call this a doppelganger, others a twin stranger or just a lookalike — whatever the word, DopplGrid uses secure face-mapping technology to help you actually find your match, and gives you visibility into where your own photos are circulating across the network. How it works

Getting started takes two steps. First, you enroll your face — a short, guided scan from a few angles that creates your personal face-map. This acts as your key to the rest of the app; it's the reference point DopplGrid uses to compare you against everyone else who has enrolled, and to recognize you specifically in photos you appear in later.

Once you're enrolled, you can browse Doppelgangers — a ranked list of everyone on the network whose face-map is closest to yours, scored by similarity. You can also compare yourself directly against friends and family to see an exact match percentage, which tends to turn into a surprisingly fun conversation starter at family gatherings.

When you upload a group photo — a party, an event, a crowd shot — DopplGrid can recognize your own face in it automatically. If someone else in that same photo resembles another registered user, that resemblance is kept private and anonymous unless that specific person later runs their own Find Yourself search and confirms it themselves. Nobody's identity is ever revealed to anyone but that person, and only at their own request — DopplGrid never automatically identifies a third party to someone else.

Privacy, by design

Face data is sensitive, and DopplGrid treats it that way. A face detected in a photo that doesn't resemble anyone currently registered on the network is discarded immediately — it's never stored "just in case." Matching only ever happens between people who have themselves chosen to enroll, and identifying who a resemblance actually belongs to only ever happens when that person searches for themselves, never automatically or as a side effect of someone else's upload.

DopplGrid is available as a free app on Google Play and right here on the web — no download required. An iOS version is in progress.
